The first thought that came to my mind was “…WOW.” The second thought that came to my mind was, “What excuse do I have?”
What makes people “special” is not the abilities they are born with, but what they choose to do with the tools they have. Putting dreams into action.
Sometimes it’s difficult to find motivation in life. But sometimes inspiration begets motivation. Forget swimming… If a 93-year old gentleman can set a goal of being the fastest 50m swimmer in his age group, then we should also be striving high for our personal goals as well.
93-year old George Corones, said something that mirrors the PT philosophy of rehab and activity: “swimming is hard, but if you do it sensibly, the results are astronomical.” In training for a big race (running, cycling, swimming, all the above..), methodical planning is necessary for safe performance and execution, which is another role where physical therapists can provide some guidance. Injury screenings, nutritional consultations, periodization and training programming are all within our wheelhouse.
